World Book Day 2026 at Orchard House

Friday 6th March 2026

Orchard House was full of colour, excitement and creativity on Friday as we celebrated World Book Day 2026. Although the national event took place the day before, our whole school community came together on the 6th to enjoy a day dedicated to stories, imagination and the simple joy of reading.

This year’s theme, “Reading for Pleasure,” was the focus throughout the day, and it was wonderful to see how enthusiastically pupils and staff embraced it.

A School Filled With Favourite Characters

From the moment pupils arrived, Orchard House felt transformed. Students and staff came dressed as their favourite book characters, with costumes ranging from timeless classics to modern favourites. The effort and creativity on display brought a real sense of fun and celebration to the building, and it set a lovely tone for the day ahead.

Many pupils also brought in a favourite book from home, proudly sharing their choices with classmates and teachers. These moments of reading together helped spark conversations and reminded us all how powerful and personal reading can be.

Working Together With Pioneer House

For Groups 1 and 2, World Book Day included something extra special. Pupils took part in shared activities with our Trust partner school, Pioneer House. Some of their students joined us at Orchard House, while some of our pupils visited Pioneer House for the morning.

These sessions gave children the chance to enjoy stories and activities in a new environment, build confidence, and strengthen friendships across the two schools. Families of pupils taking part in the external visit were given all details by class teachers beforehand.

A Supportive and Enjoyable Day for Groups 3, 4 and 5

Students in Groups 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed World Book Day within their usual routines, with themed activities carefully planned into their normal timetable. This helped ensure that each child could take part in a way that felt calm, structured and comfortable, while still enjoying the excitement of the celebration.

By the end of the day, it was clear how much World Book Day meant to our pupils. Whether they were sharing stories, showing off their costumes, or taking part in activities with friends, the atmosphere across the school was positive and inspiring.

We look forward to building on this enthusiasm and continuing to nurture a love of books and reading throughout the year.
